Good old fashioned print
Visually, like many other colleges, WQE struggled to convey the essence of their ‘everyday’ to the prospective student sitting at home or school, wondering just what life would be like at a sixth form college.
And because of all our background research and work on message and positioning, we knew we had to address directly, certain negative perceptions about the college around care and support.
Our solution was a printed summary of the college ethos: personal growth, joint effort and individual achievement – delivered in a mutually supportive, vibrant, diverse and progressive environment.
Our design approach was deliberately bold, oversized A3, visually striking, editorially challenging and utilising a direct dialogue approach with potential students.
The bedrock of the design was a library of new portrait and reportage photography, which we used to flood the layout, providing that window into the ‘everyday’ we thought so valuable for what we wanted to say and for what potential students wanted to see.
A further creative twist was added by our in-house writers, who slimmed down the college’s new USPs, bringing them to life through provocative and dramatic divider pages.
